GAME WORKSHOP

2030 SDGs GAME

What will it take to build a better world?

The 2030 SDGs Game is a powerful experiential game-based workshop simulating what could happen in our world in 2030.

The game highlights the importance of balancing the three pillars of People, Planet and Prosperity, and invites participants to explore the mindset and actions that are required to advance sustainability.

Developed in 2016 by Japanese organisation Imacocollabo, the 2030 SDGs Game has now been played by over 350,000 people worldwide. Through play, participants become more aware of themselves, others, the world we live in and the impact of the choices we make.

In the game participants spend time and money in order to run projects, with the objective of achieving their mission…what will be the impact of their decisions? What will the other people in their world do? What kind of world will emerge by 2030? All is revealed during game play.

The worlds created during 2030 SDGs Game workshops are different every time, as they result from the unique mix of people who gather to play together

Demystify the SDGs

The SDGs are simplified and brought to life through the game play.

Interconnectivity

Experience first hand what it takes to create a balanced world and how the SDGs are interconnected.

Understand relevance

SDGs are not the responsibility of the few, they are relevant across industries and around the world.

Play your part

Explore the power of your actions and how you can contribute to a more balanced world.

In the process of playing the game, participants also develop skills such as collaboration and big picture thinking.

気づき ‘Kizuki’

‘Aha’ moments are unique and individual to each of us, and can be sparked in many different ways. The 2030 SDGs Game comes from Japan and in Japanese there is a term ‘kizuki’, which can be translated as expanding awareness; a unit of realization or discovery; an “aha” moment; the thing realized or discovered during an “aha” moment.

‘I love how powerful this game can be in expanding awareness about ourselves, others, the world we live in and how our actions and consciousness impact the world. Sometimes I can see the lightbulbs going off in the players head as they make connections and discoveries as they play.’

Who is it for?

Whether you are already actively contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or you are just starting out on your SDG discovery, the 2030 SDGs Game Workshop is a great way to get people from across your organisation engaging with the SDGs.

Why play the game?

Ownership – I have a role to play

“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it”

Ownership is one of the key barriers for companies wanting to embed sustainability across their business. The 2030 SDGs Game contributes to changing the mindset that sustainability is the responsibility of someone else.

Collaborative working – We can change the world when we work together

“Together we can do so much”

To succeed in the 2030 SDGs Game, participants need to see the bigger picture, think collectively and work together. This makes the workshop a great tool for team-building sessions.

Responsibility – My actions are important

“Small actions. Big impact.”

Playing the game and reflecting on it afterwards, participants realise how important all of our actions are and that even seemingly small actions can have a big impact. With the right culture and recognition of their contributions, this realisation can inspire employees to get involved and take action for sustainability.

This is the most impactful simulation game I have played. I have experienced it three times and every time I have had an entirely different experience and breakthrough. This game is changing the world.”.

A story in the making

Whilst we know first-hand how thought provoking and powerful this game is, every time we facilitate the workshop, we are struck by just how impactful it is, and how participants feel inspired to collaborate and take action after experiencing the game.

The game originated in Japan and it is now spreading around the world. Co-CREATE ImpACT was one of the first certified facilitators of this game in Europe back in Spring 2019, and became a master trainer delivering 2030 SDGs Game facilitator training in Europe in 2022.
